Stolen Vehicle

At 7:20 a.m. yesterday, a vehicle owner reported their car stolen from outside their residence overnight Friday. The vehicle is a 2008 Nissan Rogue, 4 door, cherry red in colour, Manitoba license KSE 464. 

Possess Controlled Substances for Trafficking

At 11:15 a.m. yesterday, police conducted a vehicle stop in the 100 block of 1st Street N. Within the vehicle, police recovered a significant amount of methamphetamine packaged for resale, as well as crack, fentanyl, prescription tablets, and cash. A 39-year-old male and a 26-year-old female from Brandon will be remanded before a Justice today after being held in cells overnight.  Both are facing charges of possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of the proceeds of crime. The male faces additional charges of breach of a release order, which he had previously entered into before the court on other charges.

Possess Weapon and Controlled Substances for Trafficking

At 2 p.m. yesterday, police conducted a vehicle stop in the1800 block of Rosser Avenue. Within the vehicle, police recovered crack cocaine packaged for resale, a canister of bear spray, and a significant amount of cash carried by both individuals in the vehicle. A 34-year-old male from Grunthal and a 62-year-old male from Winnipeg will be remanded before a Justice today after being held in cells overnight. Both are facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, and possession of a prohibited weapon. The 34-year-old male faces additional charges of failing to comply with a weapons prohibition, as well as break and enter on an outstanding warrant of arrest held by another agency in Manitoba.  

Inmate Assault at Brandon Correctional Centre

At 3:40 p.m. yesterday, police received a report of an assault against an inmate in custody at the Brandon Correctional Centre. The assault took place within the adult male section of the jail, resulting in the victim being transported to the Brandon Regional Health Centre by ambulance.  The victim remains in hospital at this time with non-life threatening injuries. Several other inmates physically assaulted the victim by beating him with their fists and feet, as well as with other objects at their disposal, which included jail furniture. The Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Section were called out to conduct the investigation. This matter remains an active investigation, and more details may be released in the days to come.

Firearm Arrest

At 12:50 a.m. today, police initiated a traffic stop in the 400 block of 8th Street. Two adults, a male and female, fled from the vehicle and were arrested nearby without incident. Subsequent to their arrest, a sawed off .22 caliber rifle was located within the vehicle which police were able to link to the male. A 26-year-old male from Kamsak, Saskatchewan will face a Justice today after spending the night in BPS cells. He is facing several charges related to the unlawful firearm and its possession. The adult female in the vehicle was released without charge.

Other Arrests

  • At 9:15 p.m. yesterday, a 22 year old Brandon male was arrested at his home in the east end of Brandon on an outstanding warrant of arrest for breaching a release order that he had previously entered into before the court. The male will be remanded before a Justice today after spending the night in BPS cells.
  • At 11:45 p.m. yesterday, police conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of 8th Street. A 40-year-old male from Brandon was arrested for breach of a release order and breach of an undertaking for being outside his residence beyond a court ordered curfew. He was also arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant of arrest held by BPS for several counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, breach of undertaking, and four counts of failing to appear in court. The male will appear before a Justice today after spending the night in cells at BPS.
  • At 1:25 a.m. today, police stopped a 27-year-old Brandon male well known to police, in the 300 block of 10th Street as he was outside of his home beyond the hours of a court-imposed curfew. The male was arrested, and when searched subsequent to arrest a small amount of meth was located. The male will face a Jusctice today to a charge of breach of recognizance and possession of methamphetamine, after spending the night in BPS cells.
