Taxi Driver Assault

At 4:40 p.m. yesterday, the driver of a local taxi company reported to BPS that a fare had spit in the driver’s face when he dropped the customer off at his residence. Police located the 25-year-old Brandon male and charged him with one count of assault. The accused will appear in Brandon Provincial Court in May.

Retail Theft

At 5:30 p.m. yesterday, a retailer in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue reported apprehending a shoplifter leaving the business with $350 of merchandise. Staff on scene apprehended the suspect and turned him over to police on their arrival. A 22-year-old male from Brandon will appear in Brandon Provincial Court in May, facing one count of theft under $5,000.

Domestic Assault

At 8 p.m. yesterday, a female from Brandon reported an assault against her earlier in the day by her former boyfriend. The 31-year-old male from Brandon bit the victim in the forehead, leaving an observable injury. During the interview of the victim, she disclosed that the suspect assaulted her two days prior by banging her head into a wall and throwing her against a door, which also left observable bruising. The suspect has been released on conditions to have no contact with the victim, and will appear in Brandon Provincial Court in May.

Drug and Weapons Possession

At 11:25 p.m. yesterday, police conducted a vehicle stop in the 3400 block of Park Avenue. The driver was a suspended driver and taken into custody. Subsequent to the accused’s detention, officers conducted a search of the vehicle resulting in the recovery of cash, crack cocaine individually packaged for resale, and a canister of bear spray. A 28-year-old male from Brandon will appear in court in May, charged with possession of a controlled substance for trafficking, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered

At 112:40 a.m. today, police stopped a stolen vehicle from Winnipeg in the 1800 block of Middleton Avenue. A 23-year-old female from Winnipeg was charged with possession of stolen property, and will appear on that charge in Brandon Provincial Court in May.

Impaired Driving

At 2:45 a.m. today, police conducted a vehicle stop in the 1300 block of Kirkaldy Drive. Police arrested the vehicle operator for being under the influence of alcohol while operating a vehicle. The suspect subsequently provided samples of his breath in excess of the legal limit. A 36 year old male from Brandon will appear in Brandon Provincial Court in May, facing charges of impaired driving and driving with over 80 mg% of alcohol in his blood.

Drugs and Proceeds of Crime

At 3:55 a.m. today, police conducted a vehicle stop in the zero hundred block of Hill Avenue. As the investigation processed at the roadside, a 26-year-old male from Brandon was arrested and both he and the vehicle were searched. Located was a variety of controlled substances for resale including fentanyl, MDMA, meth, and cash in such an amount that it is believed to have originated from drug trafficking. Officers charged the suspect with possession of controlled substances for trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime. The suspect will appear in court in May to answer to those charges.

Other Arrests

At 5:50 p.m. yesterday afternoon, a disturbance was reported in a downtown apartment building. A 39-year-old male of no fixed address was banging and kicking doors to individual suites in the building. The accused is currently bound by a court order to abstain from the consumption of alcohol, and was intoxicated. The suspect was held in cells at BPS until sober, and released later to appear in Brandon Provincial Court in May, and faces a single charge of breach of a release order.
