 Firearms offences

On February 10, 2021, police responded to multiple reports of a male shooting a gun in the in the area of Baker Bay shortly after 6:00 pm.  Witnesses observed a male with a handgun running away from the area.  Police located and arrested the suspect within minutes.  He was still in possession of a CZ-74 handgun and ammunition.  Nobody was injured because of the shooting.

An investigation into the incident revealed that the suspect confronted an individual with the gun, but the individual was able to enter their vehicle and drive away.  The suspect fired the gun towards the vehicle, striking it.  The driver of the vehicle lost control shortly after leaving the area and struck a tree.  The vehicle was towed for further investigation.  The suspect and the driver are not known to one another.

The suspect, a 35-year-old male, was held in custody and appeared in court in the afternoon of February 11, 2021 on 14 firearm and weapon offences.  He has been remanded in custody.

Discharge Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life

Assault with a Weapon

Discharge Restricted Firearm into a Place in a Reckless Manner

Breach of Undertaking

Possession of Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order X 3

Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

Carrying a Concealed Weapon

Possession of a Weapon

Pointing a Firearm

 

Sexual Interference

In November 2020, police received a report of historical sexual abuse, which occurred between 2008-2011.  An ongoing investigation revealed that two female relatives were under the age of 16 at the time of the abuse.  The suspect, a 41-year-old male family member, was arrested on February 11, 2021 and will appear in court on May 6, 2021 on 9 charges of Sexual Assault related offences, including Sexual interference, and Invitation to Sexual Touching. 

 

Arrest Warrants

On February 11, 2021, police located and arrested an 18-year-old female on outstanding charges of Fail to Appear, and Fail to Comply with Probation.  She will appear in court on March 11, 2021.

On February 11, 2021, police located and arrested a 50-year-old male on outstanding charges of Possess Property Obtained by Crime, and Possess for the Purpose of Trafficking.  He was lodged at Brandon Police Service to appear in court.

On February 11, 2021, a 34-year-old male attended Brandon Police Service, as he was made aware of an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  He was released to appear in court on May 3, 2021 on a charge of Fail to Appear.

On February 11, 2021, a 31-year-old male was located and arrested on outstanding charges of Fail to Comply with Probation, Theft Under, and Fail to Appear.  He will appear in court on March 11, 2021.
