Domestic Assault

At 3:45 p.m. Saturday, police attended to the area of the 1800 block of College Avenue as the result of a 911 call. Investigation revealed that a 35 year old male of no fixed address had assaulted his former girlfriend at a residence there, by head-butting her in the face. The suspect was intoxicated, and wanted as well by Manitoba First Nations Police for an unrelated domestic assault occurrence against a different female in August. The suspect was lodged in BPS cells and will appear today before a Justice on the outstanding MFNP warrants of arrest, and faces one charge of assault for the occurrence yesterday afternoon in Brandon.

Shoplifter, Threats

At 8:20 p.m. Saturday, a 37-year-old male from Brandon was arrested by loss prevention staff at a retail store at the Coral Centre complex on 18th Street N after stealing merchandise. He threatened to harm the staff member who attempted to arrest him, and was apprehended by police in the area. The property was recovered, and the suspect was released to appear in court in January, facing charges of theft under $5,000 and uttering threats.

Impaired Drivers

At 9:54 p.m. Saturday, a vehicle stop was conducted in the 600 block of 18th Street after a vehicle query showed that the vehicle was unregistered. The officer formed grounds to believe the vehicle operator was impaired and the driver was arrested. A 32-year-old male from Rivers provided samples of breath, which showed that he was operating a vehicle while exceeding the legal limit of alcohol. The suspect was released from custody and will appear in court in Brandon next week, and faces a charge of driving while impaired, driving over 80 mg%, and public mischief for initially providing a false name to police.  

At 12:57 a.m. today, police initiated a vehicle stop in the area of Patricia Avenue and Magnolia Crescent. The driver was arrested for impaired driving as he was under the influence of alcohol. The 22 year old male from Carberry was released after providing samples of breath in excess of the legal limit, and will appear in court next week, charged with impaired driving and driving over 80 mg%.

At 1:25 a.m. today, police stopped a vehicle in the area of Rosser Avenue and Canada Crescent when it was observed travelling in excess of the posted speed limit, and was being operated in an erratic manner. A 31-year-old male from Brandon was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated. After providing breath samples, the male was detained in cells to be released later in the day once he was sober. The accused will appear in court in January, charged with impaired driving and driving over 80 mg%.

Cocaine Possession/Proceeds of Crime

At 2:40 a.m. today, police stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Van Horne Avenue East. As a result of the investigation which followed on scene, police recovered cocaine and cash from the vehicle occupants. A 33-year-old female from Sioux Valley First Nation and a 31-year-old male from Brandon were released for court in January, both are charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Other Arrests

Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, a taxi driver transported a customer to the BPS office who was too intoxicated to care for herself. A 29-year-old female from Brandon was released from cells later in the day once she was sober.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, a 38 year old male from Brandon was arrested at a traffic stop when it was found that we was wanted on outstanding warrants for fraud related offences. He was released on scene to appear in court in late November.

At 2:20 p.m. Saturday, a 49-year-old male high on crystal meth was causing a disturbance in the downtown area. He was lodged in BPS cells, and released later when sober.

 At 8:25 p.m. Saturday, a 43-year-old female from Brandon was located and released for court in January, on an outstanding warrant of arrest for theft under $5,000 and breach of probation.

At 8:20 p.m. Saturday while at the Corral Centre on an unrelated matter, a 59-year-old male from Brandon was arrested on outstanding BPS warrants for theft under $5,000 and breach of probation. He was released on scene to appear in court in January.
