Attempt Escape Lawful Custody

On Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., a prisoner in custody at BPS within the holding cell area attempted to escape from detention. After completing a phone call to legal counsel and while being escorted back to his cell, the male announced his frustration at being in custody and attempted to escape via a secure door in the cell area. This door is locked continuously and requires special measures to open in order to gain access to the exterior of the police service building and as a result, the male was not able to make good on his escape attempt. A 29-year-old male from Brandon is charged with attempting to escape lawful custody and will be appearing before a Justice this morning.

Mischief to Property

At 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, a citizen reported a male acting in a bizarre fashion in the downtown area. Police located a 34-year-old male of no fixed address high on meth, who was paranoid and confused. Police took the male into custody for his own safety with the intention of detaining him in custody until he was coherent enough to release. Once in the rear of the police vehicle, the male began kicking a rear door and window. The damage sustained rendered the back door inoperable and the police vehicle is now out of service. The male is in custody in cells at the police service building, and will be released for court in September, charged with one count of mischief to property under $5,000

Possess Meth for the Purpose of Trafficking

At 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, police conducted a vehicle stop on the #1 Highway. The operator, a 23-year-old from rural Manitoba was found to be the subject of several arrest warrants held by the Manitoba First Nations Police Service. The backpack in possession of the male was searched incidental to arrest and was found to contain a quantity of prescription medication, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine. The male is in custody at the police service charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He will appear before a Justice this morning.

Possess Firearm in a Motor Vehicle

AT 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, a motor vehicle stop was conducted in the 500 block of 13th Street. Located within the vehicle was a loaded 9 mm pistol and ammunition. The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 25-year-old male of no fixed address is in custody at the police service cells.  He will appear before a Justice later today charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possess a restricted firearm with ammunition, unsafe storage of a firearm and ammunition, tampering with a serial number, and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

Breach of Peace

At 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, a 32-year-old male of no fixed address while high on methamphetamine, attempted to gain entry into a vehicle occupied by a mother and her children in the south end of the city. The male was not successful, the occupants were unharmed, and no damage was done to the vehicle. As the mother and children left their vehicle, the male approached them again and kicked the mother and the family dog. They were able to flee and call police. The male was located in the area and taken into custody to be held until sober. The complainant declined to proceed with a charge against the male, and neither her nor the dog were injured. 

 

Possess Meth and Proceeds of Crime

At 4:00 a.m. today, a 32-year-old male from Brandon was stopped while operating a motor vehicle in the area of Willowdale Crescent and Buttercup Bay. The driver did not have a driver’s license and was taken into custody. A search of the male subsequent to arrest resulted in the recovery of multiple individually packaged baggies of meth, and a quantity of cash. The male is charged with possession of the methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. He was released for court in Brandon in September.

Other Arrests

  • At 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a disturbance at a residence in the south part of the city. A 29 year old male was located on scene with a female who is currently on orders to not have any communication with. He has been taken into custody and will appear before a Justice this morning.
  • At 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, a 37 year old male of no fixed address appeared to have a established a camping location behind a business on Brandon’s north hill. The male subject was found to be intoxicated contrary to a release order by which he is presently bound. The male is in custody at the Police Service cells and will appear before a Justice today, and is facing a charge of breach of undertaking.
  • Four other people were arrested over the past 24 hours on outstanding warrants of arrest and have been released to appear in court at a later date.
