On March 1, 2019, at approximately 7:40 am, police received a report of an unresponsive male in a residence in the 3500 block of Willowdale Cres. The initial report received, was that the male was in cardiac arrest.

Police attended to the residence with members from BFES. The male was deceased when police arrived, and a sudden death investigation ensued.

The autopsy report later revealed that the male’s death was not due to natural causes. Members of BPS Major Crimes Section have been investigating the death and consider it a homicide.

The deceased male was identified as Eugene KAKEWASH, a 49-year-old male of Brandon.

The cause of death and information regarding the investigation itself will not be released, as investigators do not wish to jeopardize the outcome while they continue to investigate.

A number of individuals have already spoken with police, or have been interviewed in relation to this investigation; however, anyone who feels they may have additional information regarding the death of Eugene KAKEWASH is encouraged to contact members of BPS Major Crimes Section by calling 204-729-2345.
