 Group Home Assault

On Saturday afternoon, a 13-year-old youth was charged and released for an assault by against a worker in their home that occurred on November 18. The youth was released from custody back to the care of the group home staff for an appearance in court at the end of December, and is charged with one count of assault.

Domestic Assault

At 7:32 pm yesterday, a 21-year-old male from Brandon was taken into custody for assault against his girlfriend earlier in the day. That male had contacted his girlfriend later in the day and advised he was on the way to her residence, and she contacted police as she feared she he would assault her again. The male was arrested before reaching her residence, and was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court in the morning. He is facing a single charge of assault, and will appear as well on outstanding warrants for his arrest for taking a motor vehicle without consent and breach of probation.

Possess Weapon

At 11:43 p.m. yesterday, a 39-year-old male from Brandon was taken into custody on the strength of an outstanding warrant for his arrest for breach of probation. During the search of his person incidental to arrest, officers located a knife in his pocket, which he was carrying to use as a weapon. That male will appear in court today after spending the night in custody, and will appear on the arrest warrant and a new charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous person.

Theft under $5,000

Yesterday evening, a 37-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for theft under $5,000. She was identified from video surveillance as being responsible for the theft of cash from the office of a downtown business. She was released from custody to appear in court at the end of January.

Possess Weapon, Disorderly in a Licensed Premise

At 2:52 a.m. today, police attended a disturbance at a licensed premise in the 3200 block of Victoria Avenue. At 20-year-old male from Ontario had slashed another male patron across the face twice with a small knife, causing open cuts to the victims face. The victim, who refused to cooperate with the police investigation, was treated and released from hospital. The accused will be released from custody today once he is sober and is charged with being disorderly in a licensed premises and possessing a weapon in a licensed premises, under the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act of Manitoba.

Domestic Assault

At 2:48 a.m., police attended a disturbance call at a residence in the south end of the city. A male occupant of the residence answered the door and showed signs of assault, as very recent injuries were observed on his face and neck. His common law partner was intoxicated and taken into custody for assaulting her boyfriend, who refused to cooperate with the investigation. She was later released, and will appear in Brandon Provincial Court at the end of January, charged with one count of assault.

Other Arrests

Two people were arrested and processed for outstanding warrants of arrest, two people were arrested and detained for their own safety under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, two people were arrested for breaching various court conditions by which they are currently bound, and five people were arrested for breach of the peace for being involved in public disturbances while intoxicated.
