For the last 24 hours:

Shoplifting Complaint Leads to Multiple Arrests for Outstanding Warrants and Drugs:

At about 1:30 PM Friday afternoon, we received a complaint from a business in the 1800 block 18th St. N. that a male, known to them as a prolific shoplifter, was again in their store.  Members were aware that there were warrants for the arrest of the suspect.  The 34 year-old male, who is from Brandon, was located in the store, and was arrested on the strength of two arrest warrants for two counts of failing to comply with recognizance order and theft under $5000.  As this male was being removed from the store, the vehicle that he had attended in left the parking lot but was stopped by a second police unit.  A 39 year-old male passenger, who is a Brandon resident, initially identified himself with a false name and when members compared known identifiers, he fled from the vehicle on foot.  A foot pursuit occurred and he was apprehended a short distance away.  Once his true identity was established, it was learned that he too was the subject of a warrant for arrest for two counts of failing to comply with recognizance order.  The driver of the truck, a 30 year-old male from Virden, was detained after numerous rifle cartridges were observed scattered about the interior of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle located several grams of cocaine, several grams of methamphetamine, and paraphernalia consistent with trafficking.  The 39 year-old male and the driver were both arrested in relation to the drugs, and the driver faces an additional charge relating to the ammunition. The 34 and 39 year-old males were lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear before a Justice today.  The driver was released from custody, on appropriate police imposed conditions, and is to appear in court on January 9th to answer to his charges.

Residential Fire:

At 1:26 PM Friday afternoon, 911 reported a fire inside a structure in the 300 block 13th Street.  Brandon Fire and Emergency Services had been dispatched but a Police member was close to the scene and attended prior to their arrival, extinguishing the stove top fire that had spread to the sink and counter area.  The fire was deemed accidental.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered:

On Friday afternoon, a business in the 3400 block Victoria Avenue reported that there was a Dodge Ram truck parked on their lot that had been there for an extended period of time.  It was not associated to their business and they requested authorization to remove it. A records query showed that it was stolen in late August from the Virden area. The truck was brought back to BPS for forensic examination.

Vehicle Stop Results in Drug and Weapon Charges:

At about 8:25 PM Friday evening, a vehicle stop was conducted in the 700 block Rosser Avenue. During the stop, a can of pepper spray was located in the area occupied by a 26 year-old male.  Also located within the vehicle were several ounces of cocaine and paraphernalia consistent with trafficking. As a result of the investigation, a 39 year-old female from Brandon was released on appropriate police imposed conditions, and is to appear in court on January 9th facing one charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The male was held in custody and will appear today on charges of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with recognizance order, as he is currently bound by an order not to have any contact or communication with the female involved.

Other Arrests:

A 40 year-old female was lodged to prevent a continued breach of the peace after she showed up at the front of BPS, at about 6:00 PM Friday, yelling and acting in a bizarre manner: she admitted to some drug use.

Just after 11:00 PM Friday night, a 26 year-old female was taken into custody after family called complaining that she was causing a disturbance while under the influence of drugs.

A 24 year-old female was banging on the doors and windows of a residence on Princess Avenue East at around 4:00 AM this morning.  The female had no connection to the residence and was believed to be under the influence of meth so was lodged to prevent further problems.

Just before 6:00 AM this morning, a 35 year-old male was located in a highly intoxicated state in the 0-00 block 7th Street.  He was lodged under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act for his safety.
