For the last 24 hours:

Assault, Mischief to Property

At 11:00 a.m. Friday, a disturbance occurred at a residential care home for the elderly in the city. A 41-year-old Brandon male, under the influence of meth, had entered the building and was attempting to gain entry to a locked office and resident’s rooms when a staff member confronted the male. The male fled the building after pushing the staff member, and taken into custody by police a few blocks away from the incident. No other persons in the building confronted the suspect or had contact with him. Police held the male at the Brandon Correction Centre to appear in court today, where he is facing one count of assault and one count of mischief to property.

At 11:45 p.m. on Friday, police took two people into custody in the area of the 1100 block of McTavish Avenue, after checking several people at that location. A 33-year-old Brandon male in breach of a court-imposed restriction of a conditional sentence by being outside his home, and carrying a machete hidden on his person, will appear in court today charged with possession of a dangerous weapon. An 18-year-old Brandon female in breach of a court imposed no contact order by being with one of the people checked, and carrying an expandable baton hidden on her person, will appear in court today charged with two counts of breach of probation and one count of possession of a dangerous weapon.

Damage to Property, Assault with a Weapon

At 2:55 a.m. today, police attended to a hotel in the 1100 block of 18th Street in response to a 911 call originally reporting a shooting. Several people fled the area, and still on scene on police arrival was an adult male who had been stuck in the shoulder with a projectile fired from what turned out to be a BB gun. The male did not require any medical treatment. The same BB gun also shattered a pane of glass at the front of the business. Several people were located in the area and identified as persons of interest in this ongoing investigation. Alcohol was a factor in this incident, no firearm was involved or other weapon other than the BB gun, and the investigation is ongoing at this time while police gather evidence.
