For the last 24 hours:

Fraud Use of Credit Card, Possession of Stolen Property:

At approx. 10:18 AM Friday, a resident of the 1100 block 8th Street attended to BPS reporting that his truck had been entered overnight and his wallet stolen from it.  He had discovered and reported it earlier, but had learned in the interim that his bank cards had been used to make fraudulent purchases.  About an hour later, Shopper’s Mall security reported detaining a 19 year-old male who had attempted to use one of the complainant’s bank cards to make a purchase.  As a result of the ongoing investigation, the male was charged with possession of property obtained by crime and possession/use of a credit card.  He was released from custody and is to appear in court on September 9th.

Arrest Warrants Executed:

At about 2:45 PM Friday afternoon, a 43 year-old male attended to BPS and turned himself in as he was aware that a warrant for his arrest had been issued for failing to attend for identification.  He was processed and released to appear in court on August 19th to answer to the new charge.

Just before 8:00 PM Friday evening, two females were checked in the area of Ashgrove Blvd and Willowdale Cres, and both were found to have warrants for their arrest.  A 29 year-old was wanted for theft under $5000 and was held in custody to appear in court this morning.  A 40 year-old was also wanted for theft under $5000 but released from custody to appear in court on September 16th.

At around 9:40 PM Friday evening, a 21 year-old male was arrested in the 1000 block Princess Avenue as he was known to be the subject of an outstanding warrant for arrest for two counts of failing to comply with a Probation Order.  He was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court this morning.

At 12:56 AM this morning, Virden RCMP advised apprehending a 28 year-old female resident of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation on the strength of arrest warrants held by BPS and them. The BPS warrants were for the offences of contempt of court and theft of motor vehicle.  The accused was being held in custody to appear in court this morning.

Youths Charged in Group Home Disturbance:

Members attended to a report of an assault at a Brandon group home at about 3:45 PM Friday afternoon.  A worker for the home reported that a panic alarm had been activated and it was learned that a worker had been assaulted by two female residents. A 13 year-old accused was charged with assault and the second, who is 12 years of age, was charged with assault and mischief to property; the latter charge for breaking a window in the residence. Both were released back into the care of the group home, at the request of the workers, to appear in court at a later date.

Impaired Driver:

At about 11:30 PM Friday night, a 39 year-old male resident of Portage la Prairie was stopped while operating a vehicle in the area of the 1900 block of Queens Avenue.  The suspect showed signs of impairment and was given a roadside screening device test, which registered a fail.  The accused was brought to BPS where he provided breath samples which resulted in readings of approximately one and one half times the legal limit.  He was released from custody to appear in Brandon court on July 25th

Breach of Court Order:

A 17 year-old male was reported as a runaway from a group home at about 1:35 AM this morning.  It was determined that he was the subject of an undertaking that included a curfew condition, which he was now breaching.  The suspect returned to the residence at approximately 4:00 AM, members attended to the residence, and arrested him for the offence.  He was released into the custody of the group home and is to appear in court on August 20th to answer to the charge.

6th Street & Louise Avenue Disturbance:

At around 2:43 AM this morning, numerous calls were received from the area of 6th Street and Louise Avenue, extending to calls from the 400 block of 5th and 7th Streets, of a disturbance involving multiple persons, some armed with bats and or knives. A large number of individuals were encountered when members arrived in the area.  As a result of the ensuing investigation, 3 people were arrested: a 17 year-old male for possession of a weapon dangerous (baseball bat and knife) and consuming liquor as a minor; a 14 year-old female for possession of a weapon dangerous (knife); and a 19 year-old male was arrested on the strength of a warrant held by Winnipeg Police Service for mischief to property.  All three were lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and are to be released from custody later this morning.

Others:

A 17 year-old male was held in custody to prevent a breach of the peace after members encountered him in the 500 block 13th Street at about 2:40 AM this morning, when they were in the area on an unrelated matter. He was seen to run away from police and then was found hiding in the area.  When located, it was determined he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.  He was medically cleared at BRHC and then lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will be released this morning when sober.
