19 JULY 2019 MEDIA RELEASE FOR THE PAST 24 HOURS:

 

 

Domestic Assault:

At 6:46am, police were called to a disturbance at a residence on Baker Bay. A 31 year old Brandon man had assaulted his ex-girlfriend by punching her in the head. He was also breaching a probation order as he was not to have contact with the victim or attend her residence. He was arrested and lodged at BCC for court later the same day.

 

Arrest Warrant Executed:

At 10:02am, police located a 33 year old woman from Pelican Rapids in the 400’ block of Park Ave East with an outstanding warrant from Swan River RCMP for Assault. She was arrested and released for court on August 15, 2019.

 

Theft under $5000 (Shoplifting), Arrest Warrant Executed:

At 12:23pm, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at a business in the 1500’ block of 18th Street. The 25 year old female suspect was also found to have an outstanding warrant for failing to attend for fingerprints. She was arrested, printed, and released for court on August 15, 2019.

 

Firearms Search Warrant Executed:

On July 19, 2019, police began conducting a firearms search warrant of a residence in the 300’ block of 2nd Street. Due to the nature of the search, the BPS emergency response team was deployed to ensure the safety of not only all those involved, but the community at large.

Police conducted two high risk vehicle stops in relation to the search warrant. The first vehicle stop occurred at 11:26am in the 100’ block of Victoria Ave. As a result of that stop, the driver, a 32 year old Brandon man, was found to be prohibited from driving. He was arrested and the vehicle impounded. A 33 year old male passenger was found in possession of a backpack containing a canister of pepper spray. He was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon. A 17 year old female passenger was arrested on the strength of a warrant from MFNP for breach of probation. All three were held in custody pending the execution of the search warrant.

The second high risk traffic stop occurred near the intersection of 14th Street and Princess Ave. No charges were laid in relation to that stop.

At approximately 4:00pm, police made entry to the residence and conducted a search. Located inside was a sawed off bolt action .22 caliber rifle. The barrel was intact; however, the stock was sawed off to the grip. (picture below).

The 33 year old male resident was arrested and charged with three firearms offences: unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and careless storage of a firearm.

He was released on conditions for court on September 12, 2019.

Arrest Warrant Executed:

At 5:17pm, at the request of the RCMP, BPS executed an arrest warrant for breach of probation on a 32 year old male inmate at BCC. He will appear in court on July 19, 2019.

 

Break & Enter (Residential Shed):

At 1:10pm, police were called to a break & enter in the 900’ block of Dennis Street. A shed in the rear yard of a residence had been entered sometime between July 15 and July 17. Stolen were a number of tools. Police continue to investigate.

 

Theft under $5000 (Shoplifting):

At 7:59pm, police responded to a theft complaint from a business in the 900’ block of Victoria Ave. A 27 year old woman had stolen several items. She was arrested and released for court on September 12, 2019.

 

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Stolen Scooter):
At 8:36pm, an off duty BPS officer observed a man just east of the city who was pushing a motorized scooter. The scooter was found to be stolen from Brandon in July 2018. A 42 year old Brandon man was charged with possession of property obtained by crime and released for court on September 12, 2019.

 

Intoxicated Person Detention Act:

At 10:41pm, police located a 29 year old man intoxicated in the 3700’ block of Richmond Ave. He was lodged at BCC to be released when sober.

 

Trespass by Night:

At 1:23am, police were called to the 400’ block of 9th Street for a disturbance. When police arrived, two male youths fled the area. They were tracked by the canine officer and located hiding in a yard nearby. The 17 year old and 15 year old male were arrested and charged for trespass by night. They were released on conditions for court on August 20, 2019.
