Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

Theft Under $5000

On Friday morning, a woman exited a beer vendor at a downtown hotel and was approached by a female asking her for money. As the woman and her husband were leaving in their vehicle, the female reached into the vehicle and stole a $20 bill off the console. The female, a 28 year old with no fixed address, was located nearby and arrested for the theft. She was intoxicated and was lodged to appear in court on Saturday morning. 

Impaired Driving, Refuse Breathalyzer

Shortly after 1:00 am on Saturday morning, a vehicle was stopped for speeding and displaying an inactive license plate. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to BPS where he provided one breath sample over the legal limit and then became very uncooperative and refused to provide any more samples. As a result, the driver, a 21 year old Brandon resident, was charged with impaired driving, refusing a breathalyzer and numerous Highway Traffic Act offences. He was lodged at Brandon Correctional Center and will be released with a court day later in June.

Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Breach of Recognizance x 2

During the evening on Thursday June 20th, officers responded to a complaint from a woman that man was at her residence and he was on a court ordered condition to stay away from her. At that residence, officers located another male who resided at the home who stated the male was there and attempted to break in and a fight between the two had followed. Evidence at the scene indicated someone had been injured and investigators located a man at Brandon Regional Health Center with severe cuts to one hand. He indicated the other man and two unknown assailants had attacked him at a residence on 9th St and the injuries to his hand were caused by a machete during that attack. The Major Crimes Section continued the investigation on Friday and two search warrants were executed on residences. As a result, a 33 year old man from Brandon, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Breach of a Recognizance order. He will appear in court on Saturday.

Two people were lodged for Breach of the Peach overnight.
