Residential Break and Enter

Early Saturday morning a break and enter to a garage was reported in the east end of Brandon, which had occurred sometime between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. overnight. An unknown person had slid a window open on the garage and used a rake to remove two sets of keys from a key rack inside the garage. No other items were taken and the police investigation is continuing.

Domestic Assault

At 5:10 pm yesterday afternoon police were called to a residence in the east end of Brandon for a disturbance. It was found that a 34 year old Brandon male had assaulted his girlfriend during an argument by striking her in the face with an android box. The male fled the residence prior to police arrival, and is still being sought by police.

Theft Under $5,000

At 9 pm yesterday evening police observed two men involved in a verbal dispute in the downtown area. One of the men was recognized as being involved in a theft from a Brandon store approximately one week prior through video provided to police by the retailer. When being searched incidental to arrest for the theft, the male was found to have a small knife in his pocket. He was then also arrested for breach of a probation order by which he is currently bound, which forbids him from possessing weapons.  A 25 year old male from Brandon was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will be released this morning to appear in court in July, and is facing one charge of theft under $5,000 and one charge of breach of probation.

Other Arrests

One person was arrested and detained under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, one person was lodged for Breach of the Peace for creating a public disturbance while intoxicated, and two people were processed on outstanding BPS warrants of arrest.

Police attended Linden Lanes School and Vincent Massey High School on Saturday during the day, as the exterior walls of both buildings had been spray pained overnight. Both buildings were targeted with racist was well as anti-Semitic comments and logos, and other hateful and vulgar comments sometime between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on Saturday. From video surveillance a lone male, possibly in his mid to late teens or early 20’s, was identified on site as being the person responsible. The male was wearing a black or navy sweater or track jacket with a hood and 2 red or orange stripes on each sleeve extending from the shoulder to the wrist, as well as some red or orange striping along the seams of the torso, a black ball cap with a red peak, a black bandana over his face, black pants and shoes, a white hoodie or sweater underneath the outer dark hoodie, and was carrying a black backpack with orange writing across the front. The spray paint used was black, blue, and white in colour. No suspect has been identified as of yet.
