Breach of Peace

At approximately 6:30 am, police received a report from a female who was concerned for her boyfriend who was intoxicated. She was unable to care for him and she was worried that he would physically harm himself in his state. As a precaution, the 21-year-old male was cleared medically before he was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre where he could be monitored.

 

Theft Under $5000

Close to 1:30 pm, a 22-year-old male stole over $14.00 worth of merchandise from a downtown business. He was located outside the business by police still in possession of the property. An arrest warrant for Breach of Probation was also in effect for this male. He will appear in court in July 22, 2019.

 

Sexual Assault/ Personating a Police Officer

On June 10, 2019, police received a report of a sexual assault that occurred prior to 2:00 pm. A male, claiming to be an undercover police officer approached the victim and convinced her to look at an apartment that was available for rent. Once at the residence, the male demanded sex from her. He threatened that she would go to jail for ‘prostitution’ if she did not comply.

Further investigation revealed the identity of the 33-year-old male. He was located and arrested on Wednesday afternoon. He will be appearing in court on August 6, 2019 on charges of Sexual Assault, and Personating a Police Officer.

All plain clothes or undercover police officers have identification in the form of badges and ID cards that they will present to you.

Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration is an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada.  

 

Graffiti

Police received a report of an individual spray-painting in the laneway behind the 800 block of Victoria Ave at approximately 5:00 pm. Police located a 25-year-old male in the area in possession of a can of spray paint. The male is also on probation with conditions not to possess spray paint. He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre due to his intoxication level. He will appear in court on August 8, 2019.

 

Break and Enter/Assault

At approximately 8:30 pm, three individuals broke into a south end apartment and smashed the TV. The suspects also smashed the windshield of the homeowners’ vehicle before fleeing. Police located the suspects, two males and a female, a short distance away.

Upon searching the individuals, police located a hunting knife on the female.

A second report came in that one of the suspects had also assaulted an individual at a separate location earlier to the Break and Enter. The victims and suspects in both of these incidents know one another.

A 24-year-old male was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. He will appear in court today on charges of Break Enter and Commit, and public mischief.

A 23-year-old male was also arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. He will appear in court today on charges of Break Enter and Commit, Mischief Under, Assault and Resist Arrest.

An 18-year-old female was arrested and will appear in court on August 12, 2019 on charges of Break Enter and Commit, and Possession of a Weapon.

 

Possession of Cocaine and Meth-Trafficking

Police conducted a traffic stop shortly before 5:00 am, and observed a can of bear mace in plain view. Once police arrested the occupants, over 12 grams of methamphetamine, over 8 grams of cocaine, as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia was located in their possession.

A 24-year-old female was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking-Meth and Cocaine, as well as Breaching OIC Undertaking.

Speeding 109 km/h in a 50 km/h zone

At approximately 3:20 pm, a motorist was caught driving 109 km/h within Brandon by a BPS Traffic Unit member conducting laser watch. The offence occurred in the area of 34th and Victoria as the motorist was travelling westbound. The 68-year-old male driver was issued a ticket for $844. Witnesses claim he was also passing other motorists on the shoulder. Driving more than 50km over the posted limit will move a driver down 10 levels on the MPI Driver Safety Rating System (DSR).
