Break and Enter and Theft

Brandon Police Service received a report of a Break and Enter that occurred overnight on the north hill while the homeowners were inside, and asleep in an upstairs bedroom. The point of entry into the home appears to have occurred through the garage overhead door, then into the basement. Suspects then stole a TV which was mounted to a wall. Anyone with information on this break and enter is encouraged to contact Brandon Police Service.

 

Theft Under $5000

On June 1, 2019 police received a report of a theft which occurred at an east end business. Through viewing the video surveillance, the suspect was able to be identified. The suspect was located Sunday afternoon and arrested. She was highly intoxicated upon her arrest, so was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. The will be released to appear in court on July 29, 2019.

 

Four lodged Breach of the Peace 

Four people were lodged for Breach of the Peace at Brandon Correctional Centre stemming from 3 separate calls.

An 18-year-old male and a female youth were reported to be highly intoxicated at approximately 5:30 pm while downtown. Family members of the male were reportedly concerned for his wellbeing, but were unable to ensure his safety. The female youth had been reported missing from Portage La Prairie. Her caregivers were contacted to make arrangements to pick her up on Monday.

Just before 9:00 am a 20-year-old female was causing problems at her residence and exhibiting destructive behavior while intoxicated. She was lodged to prevent anything further from escalating.

Just before 9:00 pm, friends called police on a 49-year-old male because of his worrying comments and actions while in intoxicated.

 

Intoxicated Persons Detention Act

At approximately 7:00 pm police received several calls from citizens concerned for the wellbeing of two people, both of whom were reported to be highly intoxicated near a downtown park. A male had at one point passed out in the middle of the roadway and a passerby, had to move him onto the boulevard out of harm’s way. It’s believed the male also fell and hit his head twice on the pavement. The 64-year-old male was taken to BRHC as a precaution, but once he was cleared medically he was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. The 45-year-old female was also lodged.

 

Assault

Police received a report of an assault on May 30, 2019. A 31-year-old male had pushed a female down, and trashed her apartment, by throwing a TV out a window. He fled prior to police arrival that day, but was located on Sunday evening and was arrested. He will be appearing in court on July 4, 2019.

 

Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose/ Trespass by Night

At approximately 3:30 am police received several calls regarding disturbances in the east end. In one report, a male was standing outside a residence, threatening the people inside. Separate calls believed to be regarding the same individuals reported they were now attempting to break into a residence in the same area. When police attended to the area the suspects scattered. One of the individuals was caught hiding in a nearby yard. He was arrested for Trespass by Night. Upon searching the male, officers located a can of bear mace. The male-youth was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court on a later date.
