Theft Under $5000

On May 14th a business in the 600 block of 8th St reported that they were the victim of a theft which had occurred of the 19th of April.  The business had approx. $700 worth of supplies  As a result of the ongoing investigation, Police were able to identify a suspect responsible for the theft.  On Saturday evening, the suspect was in a vehicle the investigator stopped during a routine traffic stop.  He was arrested for theft and later released with a Court date of July 29th.


Impaired Driving

At approx. 12:45 AM Sunday morning police conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Richmond Ave.  The driver, a 35-year-old male of rural Brandon displayed signs of impairment and was arrested on scene.  He provided two samples of his breath with readings approx. 1.5 times the legal limit.  He was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Over .08 and was released with a Court date of June 6th.


Assault with a Weapon

At approx. 2:40 AM this morning, Police received a report of a male who had sprayed several people with “bear spray” in the 100 block of 17th St.  Officers attended and found that 4 people were sprayed by an aboriginal male suspect who had fled prior to Polcie arrival.  It appears that the suspect got angry when he was advised there was no alcohol at that location and in response he sprayed the four victims.  The can of pepper spray was recovered on scene. One of the victims was taken to hospital for treatment, but later released, the other three were treated by BFES on scene.  The matter is still under investigation.  


Arrest Warrants Executed

At approx. 2:00 AM this morning Police attempted to stop a male on a bicycle at Douglas St and Victoria Ave East.  The male dumped the bike and fled on foot with the officer in chase.  The officer caught the male after a short foot pursuit.  A check of the 22-year-old Long Plains male revealed he is the subject of several warrants from outside of Brandon for charges that include; Forcible Confinement, Assault with a Weapon, 2 count of Uttering Threats and a charge of Common Assault.  He was arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear for Bail later this morning.


Robbery with a Weapon 

At approx. 4:45 this morning Police received a report of a robbery which had just occurred in the back lane of the 300 block of 6th St.  The female victim was approached by a male and female suspect and was robbed of her cellphone.  The female brandished a screwdriver and threatened to stab the victim if she didn’t hand over her phone.  The female suspect is described as, aboriginal, in her late 30’s to early 40’s with black hair in a ponytail. The male was described as aboriginal also in his late 30’s to early 40’s dressed all in black.  The matter is still under investigation.



At 5:00 AM this morning Officers were called to an address in the 800 block of 17th St for an assault.  Upon arrival the caller indicated that her common law husband had assaulted her adult daughter by choking her and throwing her to the ground.  Police located the 42-year-old suspect upstairs, where they arrested him for assault.  The accused was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre until he is sober at which time he will be released with a Court date of July 8th.  


Breach of a Recognizance Order

At 10:15 PM on Saturday evening, police were called to an apartment in the 300 block of 14th St to assist in removing two unwanted people, both highly intoxicated, from the apartment.  Officers attended and identified the unwanted male and female and assisted in getting them out of the apartment.  A check was done on the two unwanted guests which revealed the 42-year-old Brandon male is currently bound by a Recognizance Order which includes conditions that he not consume alcohol and not communicate with the female he was with.  The male was arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear for a Bail Hearing later this morning.


Other Arrests

  • Two males were lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act.
  • Three males were lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre for Breach of the Peace
