Mobile Home Fires

On Saturday at 6:40 a.m., BPS officers observed smoke coming from the area of Brentwood Trailer Park. The officers attended to the area and located a wooden box adjacent to a mobile home on fire which they extinguished, and also observed smoke escaping from a second mobile home close by. The second mobile home is currently unoccupied, however an active fire inside was extinguished by Brandon Fire and Emergency Services. The cause of both fires is believed suspicious and the joint investigation between BPS and the Office of the Fire Commissioner is ongoing.  

Group Home Worker Assaulted

At 2:15 p.m. Saturday, police attended to the downtown area of the city in relation to a reported disturbance. A female youth who is a resident of a group home in Brandon was found to be in a confrontation with one of the support staff from the home. Police investigation found that the youth had assaulted the worker just prior by pulling her hair and threatening to stab the staff member, and also the previous evening had damaged the staff member’s car by throwing rocks against it. The youth was charged with Assault, Uttering Threats, and Mischief to Property, and was released back to staff once she was processed at BPS.

Break and Enter Arrest 

At 4:25 p.m. Saturday, a resident of the east end of the city reported that the detached garage on their property had been unlawfully entered that morning while the residents were away from the home for about one hour. Simultaneous to this report, a second citizen in the university area reported that a male not known to them was in between two residences in the area pulling a wagon carrying various goods, and acting strangely. It was found that this 24 year old Brandon male was under the influence of what was believed to be methamphetamine, and was in possession of several of the items stolen from the garage in the east end as reported by the first caller. The male was lodged at BCC and will be released Sunday, and is facing a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

Shed Fire 

At 2:59 a.m. Sunday, BPS and BFES responded to a residence on Applewood Crescent where a shed on the property was on fire. Just prior to the fire being discovered and reported, a person dressed in black clothing was reported to be running from the area westbound across 1st Street. The area was searched however this person was not located by police. It is believed that this fire which resulted in a total loss to the shed and contents is suspicious in nature, and the investigation is ongoing.

Other Arrests

A total of six people were detained for Breach of the Peace or under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, and five people were processed on outstanding warrants of arrest.
