February 2nd, 2019 Media Release

For the last 24 hours:

Breach of Recognizance:

Members were called to a hotel in the 3100 block Victoria Avenue just after midnight this morning, for a complaint of a passed-out male. The 32 year-old male was found to be the subject of a Recognizance Order with included conditions of a daily curfew and abstain from the consumption of alcohol, both of which the accused was breaching. The subject was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court later today.

Impaired Drivers:

At about 11:30 PM Friday night, a member on patrol came across a running, parked car in the 800 block 9th Street, with a female passed-out in the driver’s seat. Upon being awoken, the female displayed signs of impairment and was arrested for care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired. She was conveyed back to the BPS station where she refused to provide breath samples. The 41 year-old accused was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will be released later today, once sober. She is scheduled to appear in Court on February 7th.

A 26 year-old Saskatchewan male faces numerous charges after being stopped at around 3:30 AM this morning in the 1600 block 18th Street, while operating his truck. The accused, who was the driver, showed signs of impairment and subsequently provided breath samples that resulted in readings showing a blood alcohol content of nearly twice the legal limit. A check of the vehicle also located several open cans of beer and a small amount of cannabis. As a result, the accused faces charges of impaired driving, driver over.08, unlawful transportation of cannabis, and unlawful transportation of liquor. He was released from police custody and is to appear in Court in Brandon on February 7th.

Arrest Warrants:

On Friday afternoon, a 20 year-old Brandon man was arrested on the strength of a warrant for arrest held by the Elphinstone RCMP for assault, domestic related, after being checked in the 100 block 16th Street by a member on patrol. He was later released from police custody and is to appear in Court in Minnedosa on March 5th.

At approximately 5:20 AM this morning, a report of an intoxicated male checking vehicles in the Basswood Bay area was received. Responding members located a 39 year-old male suspect, who was the subject of three separate warrants for arrest, and took him into custody on the strength of those. He was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court later today.

Others:

During the past 24 hours, we received twelve reports involving run-away youths from their respective homes. These included updates indicating the youths had returned home; or that they had left and not returned; or they had left, returned, and left again.

Four individuals were lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and another two to prevent a continued breach of the peace: all are to be released when sober.
