Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

Sexual Assault:

At approximately 1:10 p.m., Police received a 911 call from a female reporting that she was entering her place of work and was approached by an unknown male who pushed her up against a wall and grabbed her on the buttocks and chest. Officers attended and retrieved a description of the male suspect. While patrolling the area of the incident in the 700 Block of 10th Street, Police were able to locate the male youth suspect. The 16-year-old suspect was arrested for Sexual Assault and released to the custody of a family member to attend Court in July.   

Assault:

On Thursday afternoon, Police received a report from staff at the Brandon Correctional Center that a male inmate was assaulted by another inmate on Wednesday evening. Investigation revealed that the male suspect punched the victim in the face during an unprovoked attack. The victim sustained a black eye and swollen nose because of the assault. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested for Assault and is scheduled to appear in Court on Friday.  

Theft Under $5000:

On June 5th 2018, a business in the 1600 Block of 18th Street reported that a male suspect stole merchandise and fled the store. Officers were able to identify the man through video surveillance and on Thursday evening the 37 year old man was arrested for Theft Under $5000. He was released from Police custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in August.

In the afternoon of June 6th 2018, Police received a report that a male and female suspect stole a shopping cart full of items from a business in the 900 Block of Victoria Avenue. The suspects were able to leave the area prior to Police attendance however were identified through video surveillance and were located on Thursday morning in the 100 Block of 7th Street. Both suspects were found to be bound by conditions of an Undertaking to not attend the business where the Theft occurred. The 22-year-old man and 24-year-old female both from Brandon were arrested for Theft Under $5000 and Breach of Undertaking. They appeared in Court on Thursday afternoon.

Arrest Warrant Executed:

On Thursday afternoon, Police received information that a female with an Arrest Warrant was at a residence in the 300 Block of Douglas Street. Officers attended, located the female and confirmed the outstanding Warrant of Arrest for Break, Enter & Theft, Breach of Recognizance and Fail to Attend Court. A 21-year-old male was also located and found to have a Warrant of Arrest for Breach of Recognizance. Both subjects were arrested and lodged at the Correctional Center. They are scheduled to appear in Court on Friday.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday afternoon for having a Warrant of Arrest for Breach of Probation and Fail to attend Court. The man was lodged at the Correctional Center and is scheduled to appear in Court on Friday.

At approximately 3:20 a.m., Police checked a female walking in a back lane in the 2500 Block of Rosser Avenue. The female was found to have a Warrant of Arrest for Fail to Attend Court. The 32-year-old female was arrested and released to attend Court in July.  

Breach of Court Order, Possession of Cocaine:

At approximately 4:30 a.m., Officers checked two males walking in the 600 Block of College Avenue. One of the males was known to be bound by a curfew condition of a Recognizance. The man was taken into custody and a search recovered a small amount of cocaine and a cell phone. A further condition of the Recognizance prevents the man from possessing a cell phone. The 21-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Breach of Recognizance and Possession of Cocaine. He was lodged at the Correctional Center and is scheduled to appear in Court on Friday.

Breach of Court Order, Possession of Stolen Bicycle:

At approximately 12:15 a.m., Officers checked a male riding a bicycle in the 1400 Block of Lorne Avenue. The man was found to be on a Recognizance and in breach of a curfew condition of the order. A check of the serial number on the white and green Specialized MYKA Mountain Bike found it to be stolen. The 41-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Breach of Recognizance and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. He was lodged at the Correctional Center and is scheduled to appear in Court on Friday.   

Other Arrests:

Five individuals were arrested for Breach of the Peace in the last 24 hours.
