Multiple Persons Arrested on Warrants:

Just after noon Thursday, we were contacted by a court officer reporting that a 58 year-old male suspect was in the court room and there was a warrant for his arrest. Members attended to the Court and arrested on the strength of the warrant, which was for assault, and held in custody to appear yesterday afternoon.

Members of the Virden RCMP Detachment arrested a 38 year old male on the strength of two warrant for arrest held by us. The warrants were for failing to attend for identification and failing to attend court. The accused was released from custody by the RCMP with a court date in Brandon of July 3rd.

A 19 year old male was found to be the subject of a two warrants for arrest when he was identified as the operator of a vehicle stopped by police. The warrants were for failing to comply with a probation order and for failing to attend for identification. The accused was arrested, processed, and released from custody with a court date of June 18th.

Just after 3:00 PM Thursday, members were called, via 911, to an unknown situation in the area of 34th ST & Victoria Avenue. Upon attending, a 31 year-old female and a 32 year-old male, both from Sioux Valley FN, were located. The female was found to be the subject of a warrant for arrest held by Virden Det. RCMP for failing to attend court, while the male was found to be the subject of a warrant for arrest, also held by Virden RCMP, for failing to attend court and assault with a weapon. The male was also on an undertaking with an included condition to have no contact or communication with the female he was with. Both were arrested and the female was later released from custody to appear in court on July 3rd. The male was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court today. The reason for the initial call remains unknown.

Just before 4:00 PM Thursday, we received a report from the liquor store at 10th Street & Victoria Avenue of suspicious persons loitering on their property. A 36 year-old male was located amongst the group and was found to have an outstanding warrant for arrest for failing to attend for identification. He was arrested on the strength of the warrant and later released to appear in court on June 25th.

At 8:00 PM Thursday evening, members were called to a hotel in the 1900 block Queens Avenue for a male who was causing a disturbance by trying to fight other guests. The 25 year-old male from Pelican Rapids was located and found to have warrants for arrest held by the Winnipeg Police Service for assault and failing to attend for identification. He was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to be released this morning with a court date in Winnipeg on July 10th.

At about 9:40 PM Thursday, members spotted a 19 year-old female in the area of the 2200 block Richmond Avenue, who was known to them. Upon locating her after she attempted to evade them, she was arrested on the strength of two warrants for arrest: one held by BPS for failing to attend for identification and the other held by the RCMP for possession of methamphetamine. She was later released from custody to attend court on July 5th.

Dakota Ojibway Police Service members advised arresting a 16 year-old female on the strength of a warrant for arrest held by BPS for theft under $5000 (x3), fail to attend for identification, and failing to comply with a probation order. She was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court today.

At around 5:40 AM this morning, a 34 year-old female surrendered herself at BPS after being contacted by a member advising she had warrants for her arrest outstanding. The accused was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court today facing three counts of failing to attend court, and one count of theft under $5000.

 

Non-compliance With Court Order:

We received a report of 26 year-old male suspect, who is currently an inmate at Brandon Correctional Centre, contacting a female with whom he is prohibited from having contact or communication with. The suspect was arrested, remaining in custody, and will appear in court today.

Just before 7:00 PM Thursday, a call was received of a male lying in the street in the 700 block 10th Street. He was located and found to be the subject of an undertaking with an included condition of being required to abstain from the consumption of alcohol: he was intoxicated. He was arrested for failing to comply and was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court today.

Around 9:30 PM Thursday we received a report of a disturbance in a residence in the 700 block 9th Street. A 22 year-old male suspect was located in the area and found to be the cause of the disturbance. A records query showed that he was the subject of a recognizance order that directed he abstain from the consumption of alcohol, and specified residency requirements. The suspect was found to be breaching those conditions and was arrested for failing to comply with them. He was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court today.

A 26 year-old male was checked in the 800 block Rosser Avenue at approx. 11:35 PM Thursday night and was found to be the subject of a recognizance order that included a 10:00 PM curfew. He was arrested for the breach and later released to appear in court on August 2nd.

At about 2:15 AM Friday morning, a possible impaired driver was stopped in the 100 block Princess Avenue after being observed travelling on the avenue in the wrong direction. Although he had been consuming alcohol, the breath test results showed he was below the chargeable threshold for drive over.08. He was, however, found to be suspended from driving, and also the subject of a recognizance order with an included condition that he abstain from consuming alcohol, for which he was arrested. He was later released from custody to appear in court on July 23rd.

 

Assault with a Weapon:

A 17 year-old male attended to BPS Thursday evening and surrendered himself to police as a result of an investigation into a complaint from May 29th in which the suspect had attended to a residence in the 800 block 21st St and assaulted a female. The assault included the accused using a pepper-spray type aerosol to spray the victim, before fleeing from the area. When he fled, the suspect left a collapsible baton behind. The accused was processed and later released from custody to appear in court on June 12th.

 

Residential Break, Enter, & Theft:

A resident from the 900 block 1st Street reported that between 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, the door to the residence was kicked in and electronics stolen. The matter is still under investigation.

 

Stolen Auto:

At about 8:45 PM Thursday evening, a report was received from Canada Post that a vehicle had been stolen from their Douglas Street compound about an hour prior. A male suspect used artifice to gain entry to the building and upon exiting had apparently accessed keys for the vehicle. The suspect took the vehicle and was last seen driving towards 17th Street East. The suspect is described as a white male, approx. 5’8” tall, black hair, beard, wearing blue jeans and dark grey hoodie. The vehicle is a marked Canada Post Ford Transit Connect XLT Cargo van, bearing MB license plate GBB557. The theft is still under investigation.

 

Impaired Driver:

At about 3:45 AM Friday morning, a vehicle stop was conducted in the 2300 block Park Avenue of a suspected impaired driver. The 32 year-old female driver showed signs of impairment and later provided breath samples which resulted in reading of more than two times the legal limit. After processing, the accused was released from custody and is to appear in court on June 7th.

 

Others:

Three persons, from separate incidents, were lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act after being located in such a state that they were unable to safely care for themselves. No responsible person could be located to care for any of these detainees prior to their lodging.

Two missing person/runaway reports were received over the past 24 hours.
