Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

Emergency Response - 1500 Block Louise Avenue:

 At approximately 11:10 a.m., an employee of a Brandon business reported that a tenant of one of their properties came into the business office and threatened the staff. Investigators determined that the male suspect attempted to grab one employee and threatened to start another employee on fire. At approximately 3:35 p.m., Police attended the residence of the suspect in the 1500 Block of Louise Avenue in attempt to locate him and effect an arrest for Uttering Threats. As officers approached the residence, the suspect was observed holding a knife and began to threaten Police. The suspect stated he also had Molotov cocktails and a chainsaw and threatened Police with these. After some failed attempts at negotiating with the suspect to calm down and exit the residence, officers heard the man start up a chainsaw. Continued dialogue led Police to believe that the man may have been experiencing a Mental Health Crisis. Due to the volatile nature of this incident, the Emergency Response Team was activated just after 5:00 p.m. Negotiating efforts continued and at just after 1:00 a.m. the man exited the residence and was taken into Police custody. The 43-year-old man was not injured and was transported to the Brandon Regional Health Center for treatment. The man remains in hospital and Police investigation continues to determine if Criminal Charges will be laid.

 Impaired Driving:

 At approximately 12:15 p.m., Police stopped a vehicle in the 800 Block of 13th Street. The male driver displayed signs of being impaired and was transported to the Police Service where breath samples obtained were in excess of the legal limit. The 20-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 mg%. He was released from Police custody and is scheduled to appear in Court later this month.  

Breach of Court Orders:

On Tuesday afternoon, Police received notification that a male inmate at the Brandon Correctional Center contacted a female contrary to conditions of a court order. The 30-year-old man was arrested and is scheduled to appear in Court on Wednesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, Police attended a disturbance in the 600 Block of Douglas Street. A male and female were located in the residence and the male was found to be bound by a Recognizance with conditions to not contact or communicate with the female, stay 100 meters from her residence and not to attend the city of Brandon. The 23-year-old man was arrested for Breach of Recognizance X 3 and lodged at the Correctional Center to appear in Court on Wednesday.

Arrest Warrant Executed:

At approximately 12:40 p.m., Police observed a female walking in the 800 Block of Lorne Avenue and were aware that the female had an outstanding Warrant for her Arrest for Fail to Attend for Finger Prints. The 18-year-old female was arrested and released to attend Court later this month.

Public Mischief:

On April 11th 2018, Police stopped a female operating a motor vehicle. The female could not produce a valid driver’s license and lied to Police by providing the name and date of birth of a relative. The relative whose identity was used learned this and informed Police. On Tuesday afternoon, the 31-year-old female suspect was arrested for Public Mischief. She was released from Police custody and is scheduled to attend Court in June.
