Youth Home Assault:

On Monday a 15 year-old female was arrested and charged as a result of an ongoing investigation from April 25th when she assaulted a worker at a group home in the 300 block Louise Avenue. She was released from custody to appear in court May 29th.


Domestic Assault Arrest:

In the very early morning hours, a third-party call was received reporting that the caller had received a phone call from his sister, who was screaming and stating that she was being attacked. The caller reported that his sister lives with her spouse. Upon Police arrival, the accused had fled from the residence. The victim did not require medical attention. Later in the day Monday, the 37 year-old male was located and arrested for assault – domestic related. He was subsequently released from custody on appropriate police-imposed conditions to appear in Court on May 28th.


Mischief to Property:

Late Monday afternoon, staff from a group home in the Darrach Bay area reported that one of the children in care, a 16 year-old male, was on the roof of a truck that belonging to an on-call manager. The youth was jumping up and down, smashing the windshield and the roof of the truck. He had also kicked a hole inside the residence. The accused was lodged at Brandon Correctional Cente for mischief under $5,000, and mischief over $5,000. He is to be released to staff members this morning and is to appear in Court at a later date.


Care Provider Assaulted:

Late Monday afternoon a care provider, from an assisted living home, attended to the station to report that he had been assaulted by a client just a few minutes prior. The 14 year-old suspect had punched the victim in the upper body; no medical attention was required by the victim. The accused was later arrested for assault and released from custody to appear in Court on May 29th.


Warrants for Arrest:

On Monday evening, the Virden Detachment RCMP reported having arrested a 34 year-old Sioux Valley FN resident on the strength of a warrant for arrest, for failing to comply with Probation Order, held by the BPS. The accused was released from custody to appear in Court in Brandon on May 28th.

Just after midnight this morning, a 19 year old, of no fixed address, attended to the BPS station and surrendered to police as he had seen on social media that there was a warrant for his arrest. The offences included fail to appear in court, impaired driving, refuse approved screening device, assault (two counts), and theft under. He was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court this morning.


Assault With a Weapon:

Just before 4:00 AM this morning, a call was received from a residence in the 100 block Franklin Street reporting an assault in progress. The investigation revealed that the 55 year-old male suspect and the 29 year-old male victim had been drinking together and got into an argument. The suspect escalated things though when he struck the victim in the upper body with a hammer. The victim was transported to Brandon hospital by ambulance where he received treatment for his injuries, which were not believed to be serious. The accused was also found to be the subject of a Recognizance Order with included conditions that he abstain from the consumption of alcohol, and that he not possess and weapons. As a result of the investigation, the accused was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court this morning facing charges of assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with condition of a Recognizance Order.


Broken Bedroom Window Results in Mischief Charge:

At about 4:40 AM this morning, a female caller from the 3700 block Willowdale Crescent reported a male came to her residence and broke her bedroom window. The 32 year-old suspect was located in the area and admitted to breaking the window. He was arrested for mischief under $5000 and released from custody, to appear in court on June 25th.


Break & Enter:

On Monday morning, members attended to a report of a break, enter, and theft to a detached garage in the 800 block 8th Street. The investigation showed that the suspect(s) slid open a small window and crawled in. Once inside, the vehicle parked inside was gone through and items stolen. The stolen property included a gaming console, a tablet, and a backpack containing clothing and personal effects. The matter is still under investigation.



At about 8:45 PM Monday evening, members assisted a foster parent in getting a male subject to an appropriate care facility while he was experiencing a mental health crisis.

At about 9:45 PM, a panic alarm was received from a house in the 300 block Dennis Street. When members attended, it was learned that a 13 year-old male was experiencing a mental health crisis and his behaviours had been escalating throughout the day to where he smashed a window. He too was transported to a facility.

A 42 year-old male was lodged to prevent a breach of the peace after he was reported to be acting paranoid and seemingly under the influence of an unknown substance. After being medically assessed, he was lodged to prevent any further disturbance and for his own safety.

We also addressed five reports of youth having run-away from their respective care homes, and we received reports that two previously reported run-aways had returned.
