Public Safety Notification – Fraud Prevention Tips

There are many different types of Frauds and Scams and as technology continues to evolve, fraudsters are finding new and innovative ways to try to take advantage of unsuspecting people. Below are a few tips to help prevent from becoming a victim.

  1. Keep Personal Information Confidential.

Do not give out personal information over the phone, through email or over the internet in response to an unexpected request.

  1. Protect Your PIN & Passwords

Do not reveal your PIN or Passwords to anyone, including bank employees, friends and family. If using a debit or credit card at a retail business, shield the key pad when entering you PIN.

  1. Be Aware of “Too Good To Be True” Offers

Do not send a deposit to claim ‘lottery winnings’ or receive that large ‘inheritance’ from the long lost relative that you have never heard of. Remember; if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

  1. Talk to Someone

Before you give away money or personal information, talk to someone you trust. People trying to take advantage of you can be very intelligent and charismatic. They may use pressure tactics to get you to make decisions in a hurry. Do not allow yourself to be pressured. Call someone you trust, do your own research or call Police for advice before agreeing to anything. If you suspect you are a victim of Fraud, contact your financial institution and Police immediately.
