Man Charged with Distributing an Intimate Image 

An 18 year old man from Portage la Prairie has been charged with Distributing an Intimate Image without Consent.  A woman complained earlier in January that her ex-boyfriend had shared an intimate image of her with another person via a messaging app.  A screenshot of the message was provided to police.  The accused was located on Friday, arrested and released to appear in court in March.

Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Sexual Exploitation 

A 27 year old Brandon man has been charged with Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference and Sexual Exploitation.  He was arrested on Friday by the Criminal Investigations Unit and will appear in court on Feb 3rd.  The charges follow a complaint received in December from a female youth indicating she had been sexually abused by a family member numerous times beginning in 2011. 

Fraud Food 

A 49 year old Brandon man was arrested on Friday night after a complaint was received from a restaurant in downtown Brandon that two man had left without paying an $86 dollar tab.  The man and another male were confrontational with staff at the restaurant and left before police arrived.  The accused was then located at a downtown bar by police.  He was highly intoxicated and was held in custody to be released for a court appearance on the charge in March.

Assault with a Weapon

At 12:54 am on Saturday morning, police responded to a report of a man who had been shot several times with a pellet gun at a residence in the  500 block of Franklin St.  Officers spoke with the victim who stated he had been in a dispute with another man whom had been staying with him.  The victim was attempting to evict the other man when the argument started, quickly turning physical.  During the fight, the suspect used a pellet gun in his possession to shoot the victim several times, causing injuries to the man’s arm and head.  The suspect then fled from the scene.  The victim was treated and released at BRHC.   The suspect later contacted police and turned himself in.  Following his arrest, he provided a statement indicating he had also been the victim of an assault.  The accused, a 20 year old man from Brandon, was lodged at Brandon Correctional Center to appear in court later on Saturday. The incident is still under investigation.

Domestic Assault

 A 43 year old man and a 40 year old woman, both from Brandon, were arrested and charged with Assault on Saturday morning around 3:00 am.  Police attended to a residence in the 1500 block of Louise Ave after the man called 911 reporting he was fighting with his ex-girlfriend and they had assaulted each other.  When officers arrived, both people had been drinking and minor injuries as a result of fighting.   The man was arrested and released to appear in court in March.  Inside the home, a large quantity of marihuana was located and the man was also charged with possession of Marihuana exceeding 30 gr, which he will also appear in court on in March.  The female was very intoxicated and uncooperative and was lodged at Brandon Correctional Center to be released when she was sober, also charged with assault. She will appear in court in March.

Other Arrests

Five people were arrested on outstanding warrants.
