Brandon Police Service Media Release

 

Impaired Driving:

 

 At 2:40 a.m., Police stopped a vehicle in the 1600 Block of Park Avenue after observing the vehicle driving with no headlights on and at a high rate of speed. The driver displayed signs of being impaired and was transported to the Police Service. Breath samples obtained were in excess of double the legal limit.  The 42-year-old male was arrested for Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80mg%, he was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to be released when sober to attend Court later this month.   

 

 

 

 Break and Enter – Assault with a Weapon:

 

At approximately 7:19 a.m., Police attended to a residence in the 800 Block of 4th Street after the homeowner called reporting that two males cut the lock off his detached garage and attempted to steal three bicycles. The homeowner interrupted the males and was sprayed with pepper spray. The suspects fled the area without success in stealing the bikes. Police patrolled the area but were not able to locate the suspects. The suspects are described as being male, approximately 18 years of age, both dressed in black and aboriginal in appearance.

 

 

 

 Domestic Assault:

 

At 7:43 p.m., Police attended to a residence in the South End of Brandon for a report of a Domestic Disturbance. The male suspect left the residence prior to please attending and the female victim disclosed two separate incidents of Domestic Assault. The first incident occurred on August 26th and consisted of the male suspect choking the victim and hitting the victim in the face with a household tool causing the victim to sustain a broken nose and cut lip. The victim sustained bruising to her face and a cut lip that required stitches to close. The second occurrence occurred just prior to Police attending and consisted of the suspect pushing and choking the victim. The victim did not receive any physical injuries because of this attack. While Police were at the residence, the suspect returned and was taken into custody. The 23-year-old male, who is the ex-boyfriend of the victim was arrested for Domestic Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Assault Causing Bodily Harm. The male was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Thursday.

 

At 7:43 p.m., Police responded to a Hotel in the 1900 Block of Queens Avenue after receiving a report of a Domestic Disturbance occurring in the lobby. The suspect was located in a highly intoxicated state and investigation revealed that the male suspect assaulted his wife by punching her in the face resulting in the victim sustaining a black eye. The 20-year-old male from Wasagamack Manitoba was arrested for Domestic Assault and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Thursday. The victim did not require medical treatment.

 

On Wednesday afternoon, Police received a report that a female youth assaulted another female youth in a residence on Clement Drive. The assault consisted of the suspect punching, pulling the hair and pushing the victim to the floor. Police attended and arrested the 17-year-old female for Assault. She was released to attend Court in October. The victim did not require medical attention because of the attack.

 

 

Theft Under $5000:

 

On September 5th, Police received a report that a male attended to a business in the 1900 Block of Queens Avenue and claimed to be an employee of an automotive business. The male left the store with $800 worth of tools. Earlier on the same date the same male suspect attempted to fraudulently obtain a laptop computer from a business in the 1600 Block of 18th Street. The 33-year-old male of no fixed address was located on Wednesday afternoon and arrested for Theft Under $5000 and Attempt Fraud Under $5000. He was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Thursday.

 

On Wednesday evening, an employee from a business in the 900 Block of Victoria Avenue reported apprehending a male suspect attempting to steal $17.00 worth of merchandise. The 50-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Theft Under $5000 and released to attend Court in October.  

 

 

 

 

 

Other Arrests:

 

A 38-year-old female turned herself into Police for having an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for Failing to Attend Court. She was arrested and released to attend Court in October.
