Abandoned Infant

At 6:51 a.m. Thursday, police received a call from a concerned citizen who had located an 18 month old female child alone in a stroller in the downtown area of Brandon.  The caller had remained with the child for about 15 minutes prior to calling police, and was satisfied that no responsible adults were in the vicinity.  Police attended to the location and took over the matter.  Identification was found in the stroller for two separate adults, one of which is believed to be the mother.  The female child was turned over to the care of CFS by police and will remain in care pending their investigation.  The mother reported the child missing to police later in the afternoon.  Police are continuing to investigate this matter and it is anticipated that charges will be laid against the mother.  This matter will be updated through a press release as the investigation proceeds and once charges are confirmed.
