Brandon Police Service Media Release

Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Break & Enter:

On June 13th 2017, Police were contacted by security personal of an apartment complex in the 600 Block of Douglas Street who reported that while reviewing surveillance footage, two males entered one of the residences with a firearm. The investigation revealed that the two suspects entered the building and approached an apartment. One of the suspects was holding what appeared to be a bolt-action rifle and the other appeared to be holding a handgun. The suspects attempted to enter into the apartment and when unsuccessful, one of the suspects exited the building and entered the apartment through a window. The suspect then opened the door to the apartment for the other male. The male suspects were wearing disguises however did remove the disguises which allowed their images to be captured. The suspects then exited the apartment after stealing some items. On Wednesday, Police were able to locate both suspects. A 32-year-old male from Brandon and a 25-year-old male from Brandon have been arrested for:

Disguise with intent

Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

Both males were lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Thursday. Police have yet to recover any firearms and continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident.

         

Impaired Driving:

At 7:15 a.m., Police received a call reporting a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 400 Block of 2nd Street. The male driver displayed signs of impairment and was transported to the Police Service where breath samples obtained exceeded the legal limit. The 31-year male from Brandon was arrested for Impaired driving and Drive Over 80 mg%. The male was released to attend Court later this month.

Arrest Warrant Executed:

On Wednesday morning, a 12-year-old male youth attended to the Police Service and turned himself into Police for having an outstanding Warrant for his Arrest. The male youth was arrested and detained in custody for a Court appearance.

At 10:10 a.m., officers attended to a residence on Baker Bay to locate a female with an outstanding endorsed Warrant of Arrest for Breach of Probation. The 29-year-old female was arrested and released to attend Court in July.

Theft Under $5000:

From a report on May 19th 2017, staff from a business in the 900 Block of Victoria Avenue reported that a female stole $25 worth of merchandise and fled the store, leaving in a vehicle. Police were able to identify the suspect and on Wednesday afternoon, a 37-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Theft Under $5000. The female was released to attend Court in August.

As a result of an on-going investigation from April 22nd, where a female suspect attended to a business in the 900 Block of Victoria Avenue and selected merchandise from a shelf. The suspect attempted to return the item for cash without actually purchasing the item. Staff informed the suspect that a receipt was required and the suspect then left the business with the merchandise that was never purchased. The female suspect was identified through the business video surveillance and on Wednesday Police arrested the 32-year-old female from Brandon for Theft Under $5000. The female was released to attend Court in August.

Breach of Undertaking:

At 11:23 p.m., Police were notified that a female failed to return to her residence for her 11:00 p.m., curfew as per conditions of an Undertaking. At 12:13 a.m., officers located the female walking in the 700 Block of 9th Street. The 19-year-old female was arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Thursday.

Other Arrests:

A 41-year-old female from Brandon was detained under the Intoxicated Person Detention Act after being located in a highly intoxicated state walking in the 300 Block of 6th Street.

At 2:00 a.m., Police responded to a disturbance in the 1200 Block of 10th Street. A 22-year-old man from Brandon was located in a highly intoxicated state and found to be the cause of the disturbance. The man was arrested for Breach of the Peace and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to be released when sober.
