Property Crime is a Crime of Opportunity.

The Brandon Police Service would like to remind the citizens of Brandon of 9 simple guidelines and reminders to help reduce their risk of being a victim of property crime. Incidents of property crime generally spike during the warmer months. Citizens can help reduce their risk of being a victim by following these simple guidelines:

  1. Always lock your vehicle.
  2. Never leave items of value in your vehicle and in plain sight.
  3. Never leave an unattended vehicle running.
  4. Never leave a spare set of vehicle keys in your vehicle.
  5. Park in a well-lit area.
  6. Always ensure that the doors to your house, garage or shed are locked and secure.
  7. Install motion lights and or surveillance cameras on your property.
  8. Do not leave items such as bicycles, lawn equipment or tools out in the open.
  9. Have someone you trust keep an eye on your property when away for an extended amount of time.

Record the make, model and serial numbers of all your property items. This information can then be provided to the Police if you do become a victim in order to help Police locate and recover your property.

We all have the potential to be victims of property crime however we can reduce the risk of being victimized by eliminating the opportunity. DON”T MAKE IT EASY FOR THIEVES!
