Brandon Police Service Media Release

Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Carry a Concealed Weapon:

On Wednesday morning, a male attended to a business in the 900 Block of Victoria Avenue and commented to an employee that he had a rifle in his backpack and planned to steal a vehicle. The employee saw what an object resembling a rifle in the backpack carried by the male. Officers attended however, the male fled the area on foot. Investigation led Police to an address in the 700 Block of 13th Street. Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and called the male out. The male exited the residence and was taken into custody. A search of the residence found a rifle style pellet gun. The male suspect was transported the Police Service where he admitted to the events of the morning as well admitted to stealing a vehicle on May 18th from a residence in the 500 Block of Franklin Street. The 23-year-old male from Brandon was arrested for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carry a Concealed Weapon, Theft of Vehicle and Possession of Property Obtained By Crime. The male was released to attend Court in July.

Domestic Assault, Uttering Threats, Forcible Confinement:

At 9:19 p.m., Police received a call reporting that on May 30th a female was held against her will by her ex-boyfriend. Officers spoke to the female victim who revealed that she has been suffering from a long history of domestic abuse. Through investigation, Police learned that the female had been assaulted on three different occasions one of which resulted in suffering a broken nose. The investigation also revealed that the male suspect uttered threats to cause death to the victim on two occasions and when the victim was able to escape, the male suspect took all her clothes and burnt them. On Thursday night, Police arrested a 28-year-old male from Brandon for Domestic Assault X 3, Uttering Threats X 2, Mischief to Property, Forcible Confinement and Assault Causing Bodily Harm. The male was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Friday.

Arrest Warrant Executed:

At 11:33 p.m., Police attended to a residence in the 700 Block of 13th Street to check for a female with an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for Theft Under $5000 and Fail to Attend Court. The 18-year-old female was located, arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Friday.

Assault Cause Bodily Harm:

At 3:22 p.m., Police received a report of three males and two females fighting on the street in front of a residence in the 300 Block of 11th Street. Upon arrival, a male fled but was apprehended a short distance away. Investigation revealed that the male and a female had assaulted a female and two male neighbours intervened to stop the fight. The victim suffered swelling to her face and head as well as cuts to both her face and hands because of the assault. A 46-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Harm. She was intoxicated and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Friday. A 27-year-old male from Brandon was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Breach of Recognizance; he was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to also appear in Court on Friday.

Break & Enter Detached Garage:

At 8:27 a.m., a homeowner on Fernwood Crescent called reporting that sometime overnight the detached garage was broken into and a green lawnmower was stolen. There are no suspects or witnesses and Police continue to investigate.

Breach of Court Orders:

At 6:57 p.m., Police responded to a disturbance at a downtown business. A female was causing problems and was found to be highly intoxicated. The female is the subject of a Probation Order with a condition to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. The 21-year-old female from Sioux Valley F.N. was arrested for Breach of Probation and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to be released when sober to attend Court in July.

At 1:00 a.m., while dealing with an unrelated matter in the 200 Block of 22nd Street, Police had opportunity to speak to a female. The female provided a false name and when her true identity was revealed, it was found that she was the subject of a Recognizance with a condition to observe a daily curfew. The 35-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Public Mischief and Breach of Recognizance; she was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Friday.

At 4:17 a.m., a resident in the 400 Block of 12th Street East reported seeing three people wearing dark hoodies trying to break into vehicles. The three were located near Rideau Park and on one of the males was found to be on Probation with a condition to have no contact with one of the other males. The 14-year-old male youth was arrested for Breach of Probation and released to attend Court in June. No damage to vehicles was noticed and nothing appeared to be stolen.

 

Other Arrests:

One individual was arrested for Breach of the Peace and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center.

One individual was detained under the Intoxicated Person Detention Act and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to be released when sober.

A female youth was arrested for Consume Liquor Under 18 years of age and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to be released when sober.
