Brandon Police Service Media Release

Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Impaired Driving:

At 10:22 p.m., Police observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on Princess Avenue and recognized the vehicle to be the same vehicle reported stolen from May 31st. Police were able to stop the stolen Chevrolet Silverado truck in the 800 Block of Princess Avenue however the male driver fled from the vehicle on foot. A foot chase ensued and the suspect was located hiding in a dumpster near a business in the 900 Block of Rosser Avenue. The suspect displayed signs of impairment and was transported to the Brandon Police Service where breath samples obtained were in excess of the legal limit. The suspect complained of injuring his ankle as a result of running from Police. He was taken to hospital but refused medical treatment. The 17-year-old male from Elphinstone, MB. was arrested for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Impaired Driving, Dive Over 80 mg%, and numerous Highway Traffic Act offences. The male was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to be released when sober to attend Court in June. Two passengers in the vehicle were picked up by the suspect in the 900 Block of Princess Avenue just prior to Police stopping the stolen vehicle. Both passengers were released without charge.

Domestic Assault, Breach of Recognizance:

At 3:36 a.m., Police attended to a report of an Assault in Progress on Alpine Bay. A female victim was located in the residence with scratches on her neck and advised Police that her common-law husband attacked her. The male suspect fled the residence prior to Police arrival however was located a short distance away. The suspect was found to be intoxicated and the subject of a Recognizance order with conditions to have no contact or communication with the female victim and to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. The 39-year-old male from Brandon was arrested for Domestic Assault and Breach of Recognizance; he was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Thursday. The victim did not require medical attention for the injuries sustained as a result of the assault.

Arrest Warrants Executed:

On Wednesday evening, a male attended to the Police Service believing there was a Warrant for his Arrest. An Unendorsed Warrant for Fail to attend for Finger Prints was confirmed. The 27-year-old man from Brandon was arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Thursday.

At 5:04 a.m., Police observed a female passenger in a vehicle and knew she had a Warrant for her Arrest. A vehicle stop was conducted and a warrant for Breach of Probation was confirmed. The 37-year-old female from Brandon was arrested and released to attend Court in July.

At 9:22 a.m., Police attended to a residence in the 1500 Block of Stickney Avenue in attempt to locate a female with an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for Breach of Recognizance. The 32-year-old female was located, arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Assault with a Weapon:

As a result of an ongoing investigation from February involving an Assault that occurred at the Brandon Correctional Center, a 40-year-old male inmate has been arrested for Assault and Assault with a weapon. The four other suspects had previously been arrested for their involvement in this incident. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Court on Thursday.

Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Breach Probation:

At 11:27 a.m., a male known to Police was stopped in the 800 Block of 9th Street. The male had a folding knife on him and is the subject of a Probation Order with a condition to not possess any weapons. The 23-year-old male from Brandon was arrested for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Breach of Probation. The male was released to attend Court in July.

 

Other Arrests:

Two individuals were arrested for Breach of the Peace and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center.

Two individuals were detained under the Intoxicated Person Detention Act and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to be released when sober.
