Brandon Police Service Media Release

Domestic Assaults:

At 2:10 a.m., Police responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 100 Block of 18th street. A female disclosed that her ex-husband assaulted her. Investigation revealed that the ex-husband attended to the residence in an intoxicated state and engaged in an argument, which became physical and resulted in the male choking the victim and pushing her to the ground. The female victim did not sustain physical injuries because of the assault. A 28-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Domestic Assault and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to be released when sober to attend Court in June.

At 11:30 p.m., a 911 call was received from a female requesting Police to attend a business in the 2800 Block of Victoria Avenue as she was just assaulted by her ex-girlfriend. When Officers attended, the ex-girlfriend left prior to Police arrival. Investigation revealed that the ex-girlfriend assaulted the victim by slapping, choking and pushing the victim to the ground. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries because of the assault. A short time later Police were able to locate the suspect at a residence in the 3500 Block of Willowdale Avenue. A 24-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Domestic Assault and released to attend Court in June.

Assault with a Weapon / Uttering Threats:

At 11:22 p.m., a female and male attended to the Police Service and reported that they were just at a business in the 700 Block of 10th Street and a two males approached them, one of which pulled out a machete and threatened them. The female and male recognized the man who brandished the machete and as they fled the area, the suspect sent threatening text messages to their phones. At 4:00 a.m., Police located the suspect at his residence. The 22-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Assault with a Weapon and Uttering Threats. The man was released to attend Court in July.

Stolen Vehicle:

At 6:34 a.m., a homeowner from the 500 Block of Franklin Street reported that his 1995 Purple, 4 door Pontiac Sunfire with Manitoba license plate GXM 574 was stolen overnight. The homeowner reported that his vehicle was parked at the rear of his residence at approximately 10:00 p.m. the vehicle was further described as having a very loud muffler and a “sun” decal on the rear left side of the vehicle. Police continue to investigate this theft of vehicle.

Theft Under $5000:

At 8:00 p.m., staff from a business in the 800 Block of Pacific Avenue reported that a male entered a back room of the business when they left the area and stole approximately $750 cash. When staff returned, they saw the male exit the room and run from the business. The male was known to the staff members and recognized by Police. At 3:15 a.m., while investigating a separate matter, officers located the male suspect. The 23-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Theft Under $5000 and released to attend Court in July.

Robbery with Violence / Forcible Confinement:

At 2:48 p.m., a taxicab company called Police reporting that a female hired a cab and requested to just drive around. When the taxi bill reached $100, the female fled from the cab but was apprehended by Police at 10th Street and Victoria Avenue. The female was arrested for Transportation by Fraud and held at the Brandon Police Service, as the female was the subject of another investigation that commenced on May 7th 2017. In this investigation, a male reported to Police that he answered an ad that was placed on the internet for the services of companionship. The male was picked up by the accused female and another female and taken to an apartment. As they approached the building, two males armed with machetes grabbed the male victim and tied his hands and legs. The victim was then forced to provide his bankcard and pin number. Two of the suspects left with the bankcard and made several purchases at various businesses. The victim was later threatened to transfer a large sum of money to the four assailants. The victim further reported that through the course of being confined that he was injected with drugs and while under the influence of the drug was taken to a bank machine and told to withdraw another large sum of money, which he did. Police continue to investigate this matter and identify the three other suspects. The 20-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Forcible Confinement, Robbery with Violence and Extortion as result of this investigation. The female was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Friday.

Breach of Court Orders:

During a traffic stop, a male driver with an invalid driver’s license was in the company of a passenger while bound by a court order to have no contact or communication with the passenger. The 27-year-old male driver from Brandon was arrested and released to attend Court in July.

At 4:05 p.m., officers checked a male in the 800 Block of Princess Avenue. The male was in the company of a female whom he is bound by a Recognizance to have no contact or communication with. The 20-year-old male from Brandon was arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Friday.
