Media Release last 24 hrs - 12 "stun guns" seized

Impaired Driving:

At 3:13 a.m., Officers stopped a vehicle in the 300 Block of 14th Street. The vehicle was found to be unregistered and open liquor was noticed in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment and was transported to the Brandon Police Service where breath samples were obtained. Breath sample readings were in excess of the legal limit and the 21-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Impaired Driving, Drive Over 80 mg% and unlawful transportation of liquor. The man was released to attend Court on May 25th.

Possession of Prohibited Weapons:

As a result of an ongoing investigation where a package of “stun guns” were intercepted by the Canada Border Services Agency, BPS members with CBSA investigators arrested a 51-year-old Brandon man for Possession of Prohibited Weapons. Twelve “stun gun” devices were seized, six of which resemble I phones. The man was arrested for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon X 12 and released to attend Court in June.

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime:

At 12:35 a.m., Officers attended to a residence on Riverheights Drive. Investigation revealed that the homeowner allowed a male to stay at his residence and noticed that a quantity of cash and some old Canadian bills were missing. When confronted, the man became confrontational and acting out of control. The man was arrested and a search recovered the cash including the old Canadian bills as described by the homeowner. The 31-year-old man was arrested for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Wednesday.

Theft of Boat Motor:

At 10:25 a.m., an employee of a business in the 1600 Block of 1st North reported the theft of a 20 hp 2017 Mercury outboard motor valued at $5600. The motor was stolen from one of the boats on display at the front of the business. Police continue to investigate.

Arrest Warrants Executed:

At 6:24 a.m., Officers attended to a disturbance at a motel in the 300 Block of 18th Street North. A male was located and found to a have an outstanding Warrant for his arrest for Fraud Under $5000. The 27-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested and released to attend Court in June.

On Tuesday afternoon, Police received a call that a female with a warrant for her arrest was at a downtown business. Officers attended, located the female and confirmed an Outstanding Warrant of Arrest from Thompson MB for Breach of Probation. The 21-year-old female from Brandon was arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Wednesday.

 

Theft Under $5000:

At 2:00 p.m., a male attended to the Brandon Police Service on an unrelated matter. The male was recognized as a suspect in a theft that occurred on May 8th from a business in the 1000 Block of Victoria Avenue. The 39 year old was arrested and released to attend Court in July.

On Wednesday afternoon, an employee from a business in the 900 Block of Victoria Avenue called Police after apprehending a female for attempting to steal a pair of shoes. The 47-year-old female was arrested for Theft Under $5000 and was released to attend Court in June.

Breach of Court Orders:

On Tuesday evening, Police stopped a vehicle in the 500 Block of Rosser Avenue. A records check of the driver found that he is bound by a Recognizance with a condition to not operate a motor vehicle as well is the subject of a driving prohibition. The 47-year-old man from Ste. Rose du Lac, MB. was arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Wednesday.

Police received a call from staff at the Brandon Correctional Center indicating that they intercepted a letter sent from a female to a male inmate. The female is bound by conditions of a Recognizance to not contact or communicate with the male. The 22-year-old female from Souris, MB was arrested for Breach of Recognizance and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Wednesday.

A 20-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Breach of Court Order after attempting to contact her ex-boyfriend on numerous occasions despite a condition of the Court Order to not contact or communicate with the male. The female was released to attend Court in July.
