Brandon Police Service Media Release

Assault:

On February 21st 2017, staff from the Brandon Correctional Center contacted Police advising of an Assault that occurred within a unit of the Correctional Center. Police investigation revealed that five males assaulted two victims on February 19th. All five assailants punched one of the victims numerous times and two of the suspects used a chair to further the assault. A second victim was punched in the face as he sat nearby watching the incident. On May 4th, four of the suspects were arrested and will appear in Court on Friday. The fifth suspect was moved to another Correctional Center and will be arrested in the future. The victim assaulted with the chair did receive medical treatment because of the assault. The second victim was not seriously injured.

Arrest Warrants executed:

At 7:00 p.m., a male turned himself into Police, as he was aware of an outstanding warrant for his Arrest for Theft Under $5000. The 23-year-old Brandon man was arrested and released to attend Court in June.

On Thursday afternoon, a 15-year-old female turned herself into Police on an Endorsed Warrant of Arrest for Failing to Appear for Finger Prints. The youth was arrested and released to attend Court in June.

A 22-year-old man from Cross Lake MB. turned himself into Police for having an outstanding warrant of Arrest for Theft Under $5000 and Fail to Attend Court. The male was arrested and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Friday.

Breach of Court Orders:

Brandon Correctional Center staff contacted Police on Thursday advising an inmate attempted to contact a female by telephone contrary to a Court Order prohibiting him from contacting the female. The 21-year-old man was arrested and will appear in Court on Friday.

A 28-year-old inmate at the Brandon Correctional Center was arrested for Breach of Recognizance for attempting to send a letter to a female contrary to a condition of the Recognizance. The male will appear in Court on Friday.

At 2:06 a.m., Police responded to a disturbance at an apartment in the 300 Block of 11th Street. A male and female were located inside the apartment. The male is bound by a Recognizance with a condition to have no contact or communication with the female. A 22-year-old Brandon man was arrested for Breach of Recognizance. The man was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear in Court on Friday.

Break & Enter:

On Thursday evening, Police received a report of a Break and Enter that occurred to a residence on Parkdale Drive. The homeowner reported that on May 4th between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., the residence was entered and two televisions and an X-Box video game system were stolen. There are no suspects at this time and Police continue to investigate.
